Microfluidic Toolbox for Biology and Biotechnology
Microfluidic system for synthesis of functional materials

  • Our research focuses on high-throughput screening based on the microfluidic device for biochemical analysis. These microfluidic approaches enable us to screen the cellular responses at the single-cell level, monitor cell-cell interactions under various conditions by efficiently generating droplets, encapsulating cells and trapping in static droplet array.
Microfluidic Synthesis of Functional Materials
Microfluidic toolbox for biology and biotechnology

  • We utilize two facile and crucial techniques (static and dynamic approach) for generating various functional microparticles by manipulating interesting physical phenomena, such as capillary force, Laplace pressure difference, phase separation, etc. It is introduced with various hydrodynamic principles to improve the complexity of micro-scaled particle formation. These methods can produce highly monodisperse and uniform particles, without the need to use complicated control. [More]

Self-assembly of Functional Materials (Soft condensed matter physics)
Microfluidic synthesis for complex shaped microfiber

  • We study the colloidal physics of microparticle behaviors occurring in gravity and microgravity environments with many physicochemical parameters, such as polarity of solvents, hydrophobic effects of particles, shapes of particles, etc. Collaborative research with NASA (ACE-1) team brings an opportunity to investigate the sole effects of the parameters on the colloidal physics under the microgravity environment.
Point-of-Care Diagnosis
Microgravity project: Self-assembly of colloidal particles

  • We aim at the development of point-of-care diagnostic devices. Affordable diagnostic platforms are needed for rapid and fast in low-resource settings. The research area in our group involves novel platforms and techniques can perform reliable rapid tests based on paper-based device and lateral-flow strips. [More]
